Founder Dee Dennis Announces CatalystCon West, September 11-14, 2014

Over 350 attendees gathered in Arlington, VA March 14-16 for the CatalystCon East sexuality conference. Created to inspire exceptional conversations about sexuality, the event featured 40 sessions and workshops on topics such as sex education, sacred sex, sex work, and sex positive art, as well as live podcast recordings in the CatalystCon Studio. Described by founder and organizer Dee Dennis as a “melting pot of sexuality,” CatalystCon unites sex educators, sex workers, health advocates, writers, activists, and others with a passion for creating change.

“A movement is underfoot at CatalystCon! A movement where open and courageous Sex Positive conversations, advocacy, action, and FUN happen. This exceptional happening will inevitably flow over into the world at large,” said Mo Beasley, who spoke on the Opening Keynote plenary, moderated the panel PRIDE & Prejudice: Confronting Homophobia in Communities of Color, and hosted UrbanErotika during Saturday evening’s entertainment.

During the CatalystCon East Opening Reception, Tristan Taormino was presented with the Catalyst Award by Dee Dennis. “Tristan has been a catalyst for me and for so many others in the CatalystCon community and beyond, and I wanted to recognize her for her inspiring career and all that she has done to spark communication and change in the field of sexuality,” said Dennis.

CatalystCon returns to the west coast September 11-14, 2014 at the Westin LAX. CatalystCon West is accepting speaker submissions until May 15, 2014. The conference welcomes anyone who has something to share and the desire to spark conversations about sexuality, activism and acceptance. To apply to speak at CatalystCon West, visit catalystcon.com/call-for-speakers.

CatalystCon West will also mark the debut of the CatalystCon Film Series, which will take place on Thursday, September 11 and will feature screenings of documentaries on topics related to sexuality. The call for submissions for the film series will officially open next month.

“CatalystCon is like the TEDx of Sex,” said Jackie Strano, Executive Vice President of Good Vibrations. “For queer folks it’s like their Michfest or how it should be. Academics, writers, bloggers, educators, performers, industry professionals, and others come together for a weekend of potent concentrated mash-up of ideas, conversation, workshops, panels, keynotes, training sessions, and connection. I have thoroughly enjoyed and have been deeply inspired by every session I attended and not just the panels I was on or participated in, every aspect reminded me of why I do the work I do and confirmed my belief in education and activism as the road to freedom, liberation, and justice.”

Live Readings, Performances, & Recordings Set for D.C. Area Sexuality Conference, March 14-16

With CatalystCon East less than a month away, founder Dee Dennis is thrilled to announce the Saturday evening entertainment lineup for the event, which will take place March 14-16 in Arlington, VA.  Also making its debut at the conference is the CatalystCon Studio, which will feature live radio and podcast recordings throughout the weekend.

Saturday evening’s entertainment will kick off with Off the Page: Sex Talk with Carol Queen and Friends. Queen will host an evening of conversation-sparking readings from some of CatalystCon’s erotic writers, memoirists, essayists, and other artists.

“Thinking about curating a literary night for CatalystCon, I wanted to extend the focus of the panels and events, but also of the many hot and heavy conversations about all things sexual that the conference inspires,” said Queen. “I’ve invited some of my favorite writers to participate, and I’m sure that together they’ll create one terrific reading! This also gives me a chance to bring some of the energy of the Center for Sex & Culture to share with CatalystCon, since many of our readers are friends of CSC, have appeared there, and create the kind of discourse that CSC exists to promote.” The Center for Sex & Culture is CatalystCon East’s fundraising partner.

Following Off the Page, Mo Beasley will host UrbanErotika, a performance series that celebrates erotic love through poetry, spoken word, music, dance, and theatre. UrbanErotika is known as one of New York City’s most diverse artist showcases, and will feature a variety of performers, including some CatalystCon attendees. For more information on the Saturday evening lineup, visit the CatalystCon East Entertainment page.

The CatalystCon Studio recordings will kick off on Saturday morning with the return of Sex Out Loud Radio with Tristan Taormino. Following Sex Out Loud, the Studio will welcome The Whorecast with Siouxsie Q and Jesse James, Why Are People Into That?! with Tina Horn, and The Deeper Truth: Biographies from the Catalysts with Shar Rednour. The Deeper Truth is a CatalystCon-exclusive podcast created in partnership with Good Vibrations.

“I am so proud to partner with CatalystCon to record The Deeper Truth, a biography series that because of its subject is miles from average,” said Rednour. “CatalystCon is the perfect place to capture what creates the special people that motivate, educate, create, invent, study and in general incite others to take on the edge of sexuality. All of my work–fiction, nonfiction, video, Swirl Radio, even my early work of playwriting– is motivated and inspired by my endless and burning curiosity. I love history, I love knowing what makes people tick. Doing The Deeper Truth is my ultimate Curiosity Orgasm!”

During the CatalystCon West opening reception, Drs. Carol Queen and Robert Morgan Lawrence, co-founders of the Center for Sex & Culture, were presented with the first Catalyst Award. The award was given in recognition of Queen and Lawrence’s decades of work as sex educators and activists and their leadership in the sex positive community.

The Center for Sex & Culture was also selected as one of the fundraising partners for the conference, along with the Joycelyn Elders Chair in Sexual Health Education. Dr. Elders was the CatalystCon West Closing Keynote speaker, and her chair at the University of Minnesota is the first of its kind in the country. Over $1000 was raised for these organizations during CatalystCon West. For more information on CatalystCon’s fundraising program, visit catalystcon.com/fundraiser.

ANEROS Unveils Redesigned Evi at CatalystCon West

CCON West 2013, Press Release  Comments Off on ANEROS Unveils Redesigned Evi at CatalystCon West

Platinum Sponsor To Debut Refined, Hands-Free Kegel Exerciser
At Woodland Hills Event

CatalystCon creator Dee Dennis is pleased to announce that Platinum Sponsor ANEROS will unveil its newly redesigned hands-free kegel exercise, Evi, at the CatalystCon West sexuality conference September 27-29, 2013.

At the inaugural CatalystCon conference in September 2012, ANEROS launched its first female product, Evi, to rave reviews. Although the original Evi was a proven success, ANEROS used feedback from its loyal customers to create a skillfully refined model for an even more comfortable fit and improved experience.

aneros_evi_largeLogo“Evi was originally designed to be used in a stationary position but we found that many women enjoyed wearing it for long periods of time utilizing various movements and positions.” said CT Schenk, CEO of ANEROS. “This feedback prompted us to make a few precise refinements which make Evi more comfortable and effective than ever.  To amplify the pleasure derived from Evi, we extended the handle to better reach the clitoris and provide constant contact and stimulation.”

The anatomically designed Evi by ANEROS requires no vibration and offers a sensual, hands-free experience. Evi also offers the ability to strengthen pelvic floor muscles, which help a woman perform a strong vise-like grip during intercourse; enhance arousal through increased blood flow; have multiple, more intense orgasms, more often; enhance bladder control; and facilitate healthy pregnancy, leading to easier delivery and post-partum recovery. For more information, visit aneros.com/evi.

Dennis is thrilled that ANEROS has chosen to debut the new Evi at CatalystCon West. “It was groundbreaking for ANEROS to launch the original Evi at a conference that promotes sex education, instead of at the traditional industry trade show,” she said. “The message ANEROS sends by debuting the redesigned Evi at CatalystCon as well is that their first priority is the sexual health and wellbeing of those who will buy their product.”

Dennis regards the conference as a “melting pot of sexuality” that brings together sex educators, sexologists, sex workers, writers, activists, and anyone with a passion for creating change. Topics include sex work, feminist porn, and polyamory, as well as discussions of “toxic toys” and the role of manufacturers and retailers in the promotion of sexual health. The high quality, body-safe Evi will be a valuable addition to the conversation.

CatalystCon West will be held September 27-29, 2013 at the Warner Center Marriott in Woodland Hills, CA. Pre-registration is required and is available at catalystcon.com/register until 12pm PST on Thursday, September 26. Use code ANEROS for $10 off the price of registration.

About CatalystCon: CatalystCon is a conference created to inspire exceptional conversations about sexuality. It is about reaching out and stimulating those who attend to create those important conversations in their own communities, changing how we as a society talk and treat sexuality. It is about stimulating the activist that is within all of us and sparking transformation in the way our friends, neighbors, children and even politicians discuss one of the most important aspects of humanity. The fundamental principle behind CatalystCon is “knowledge is power, and sharing that knowledge is the first spark in igniting change.” To join in the conversation, visit Facebook.com/CatalystCon or Twitter.com/CatalystCon. CatalystCon West will be held September 27-29, 2013 at the Warner Center Marriott in Woodland Hills, CA.
